Endoscopic Ultrasonography in Pulmonary Tuberculosis

چکیده
IntroductIon Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) and EUSguided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) are now well-established modalities in the evaluation of mediastinal and abdominal lesions. In the thorax, EUSFNA has been repeatedly demonstrated to be effective in the diagnosis and staging of esophageal and lung cancer as well as the evaluation of lymphadenopathy.1 Several case reports have shown EUS-FNA to be effective in the evaluation of extrapulmonary sites of tuberculosis, including the lymph nodes, pleura, esophagus, and pancreas.2-5 However, no report on EUS evaluation of pulmonary tuberculosis exists in current literature. Here we present a patient with a parenchymal lung abnormality incidentally discovered on EUS and later diagnosed as pulmonary tuberculosis via bronchoalveolar lavage and acid-fast bacilli (AFB) smear. Infraorbital Tuberculosis: A Case Report
Introduction: Extra-pulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) arising in extra-oral region in head and neck are rare, and when swellings arise from other sites such as infraorbital region, cheek, etc, tuberculosis is not usually considered for the differential diagnosis (DD) and often the diagnosis is missed and appropriate treatment is delayed. Case Report: We report a rare entity of pri...
متن کاملPancreatic tuberculosis diagnosed with endoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration.
CONTEXT Isolated pancreatic tuberculosis is rare in the Western world. Its clinical presentation often mimics pancreatic malignancy and the diagnosis is usually not suspected or confirmed prior to laparotomy. Endoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration cytology has proved to be an excellent tool for the cytological diagnosis of pancreatic and peripancreatic masses. However, this techniq...
متن کاملOesophageal tuberculosis mimicking oesophageal carcinoma.
Tuberculous involvement of the oesophagus is rare, and is usually caused by direct spread from adjacent afflicted structures. We report an 83-year-old male patient with oesophageal tuberculosis secondary to tuberculous mediastinal lymphadenitis who presented with non-specific symptoms of anorexia and lethargy. Upper gastro-intestinal endoscopy revealed an ulcerative tumour-like lesion in the mi...
متن کاملEndoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration for diagnosis of pancreatic tuberculosis.
We read with great interest the series of five cases of pancreatic tuberculosis diagnosed by endoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) from an occidental country [1]. Pancreatic tuberculosis is very rare, even in endemic countries, and most commonly involves the head and uncinate process of the pancreas and its clinical and radiological findings often mimic pancreatic malign...
متن کاملIsolated pancreatic tuberculosis diagnosed by endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration: a case report.
CONTEXT Pancreatic tuberculosis is an extremely rare clinical entity, despite the high prevalence of tuberculosis worldwide. The pancreas is protected from direct environmental exposure; therefore most cases of pancreatic tuberculosis arise from contiguous infection from peri-pancreatic lymph nodes or rarely from hematogenous spread. Pancreatic tuberculosis can present as a cystic or solid panc...
